Change the background colour of a page in OneNote for Windows 10

Applies to: OneNote for Windows 10.

After you create a new page in OneNote for Windows 10, it has a plain white background. You can quickly change it to another colour that caters your preference. Colour-coding pages with specific background colours is a great way to visually organise your notebook.

Apply a background colour to the current page

To select a new colour for the background of the current page, do the following:

  1. Enter the particular page whose background colour to modify.
  1. On the View tab, select or tap Page Colour.

  1. Choose or tap your desired colour. If you have a mouse, resting the mouse pointer over any of the colour swatches will present a tooltip with the colour name.

Note: If you don’t like the provided colour choices, select More Colours, and then press or tap your desired colour.

Remove the background colour from the current page

To restore the plain white background on the existing page in your notebook, do the following:

  1. Access the page whose background colour you want to edit.
  1. On the View tab, select or tap Page Colour.
  1. Pick or tap No Fill.
