Create a bulleted or numbered list

Applies to: Word for Office 365, Word 2019, Word 2016, Word 2013, Word 2010, Word 2007.

When you enter 1, a full stop, a space, and some text, then press Enter, Word immediately begins a numbered list for you. Type * and a space before your text, and Word creates a bulleted list.

Once you’re finished with the list, press Enter until the bullets or numbering deactivates.

Create a list from existing text

  1. Highlight the text you want to adapt into a list.
  1. Select Home> Bullets or Numbering.

Note: You can discover various bullet styles and numbering formats by pressing the down arrow beside Bullets or Numbering.
