Display or hide a chart legend or data table

You can hide or show a chart legend/data table.

Applies to: Excel for Office 365 Word for Office 365 Outlook for Office 365 PowerPoint for Office 365 Excel 2019 Word 2019 Outlook 2019 PowerPoint 2019 Excel 2016 Word 2016 Outlook 2016 PowerPoint 2016 Excel 2013 Word 2013 Outlook 2013 PowerPoint 2013 Excel 2010 Word 2010 Outlook 2010 PowerPoint 2010.

You can also show a data table for a line chart, area chart, column chart, or bar chart. A data table displays the values that are presented in the chart in a grid at the bottom of the chart. A data table can also include the legend keys.

Newer versions

Show a chart legend

  1. Pick a chart and then click the plus sign to the top right.
  1. Point to Legend and choose the arrow next to it.
  1. Select the location for the legend to display in your chart.

Hide a chart legend

  1. Pick a legend to hide.
  1. Click Delete.

Show or hide a data table

  1. Select a chart and then select the plus sign to the top right.
  1. To display a data table, direct your cursor to Data Table and click the arrow beside it, and then press a display option.
  1. To hide the data table, clear the Data Table option.
