Hear posts, chat messages, and assignments read aloud with Immersive Reader in Microsoft Teams for Education. Immersive Reader even contains grammar tools like Parts of Speech and Picture Dictionary.
Launch Immersive Reader from a message
- Hover atop a message with your cursor or tap with your finger on a touchscreen device.
- Choose More options
, and then Immersive Reader
.
Immersive Reader will open as a full-screen experience.
Launch Immersive Reader from an assignment
If you’re a student, access an assignment and pick Immersive Reader .
If you’re an educator, access an assignment and click Student view, then Immersive Reader .

Immersive Reader features
You can do one or further of the following in Immersive Reader, based on how you’d prefer to focus on the message or assignment text.
- Press Play to hear your document read aloud and to view the text highlighted at the same time. The narrator begins reading from the top of your page instantly, unless you have specified a word, which in such situations, it will begin reading from the picked word. Click Pause to stop narration. Press Voice Options on the top right of the document to adjust the speed of narration.

- Text Options – You can modify the appearance of your document by using Text Options. Text options can assist you with concentrating on your content and erase visual distraction. Format Text Size, Spacing, Font, and Themes that match your learning needs. You can expand or shrink text size and the total spacing between letters and words. The Theme colour you specify changes to the background colour of the document.
Enable Show Source Formatting to save formatting from the original text, such as bolding or underlining.

- Parts of Speech in Grammar Options – Pick one or more of the following options:
- Syllables to split words into syllables.
- Nouns to highlight nouns in your document in purple.
- Verbs to highlight verbs in your document in red.
- Adjectives to highlight adjectives in your document in green.
- Adverbs to highlight adverbs in your document in yellow. Toggle on Show labels to view the label beneath the highlighted parts of speech.

- Reading Preferences

- Line Focus allows readers to tighten the focus of their reading experience by highlighting groups of one, three, or five lines among their selected material in Immersive Reader. Select the toggle to enable or disable it.
- Picture Dictionary offers you the ability to select any single word to hear it read aloud and look at a picture that clarifies the word’s meaning.
- Translate enables you to translate your text into other languages by word or document.
Press Close to close Immersive Reader.
