Applies to: Microsoft Teams.
Curious if people have read or seen messages you’ve sent? Employ read receipts. Once they read your message the Seen confirmation displays beside it. Otherwise, you’ll only view a confirmation that your message was sent .
Note: Automatically, Read receipts are activated for everyone. Your admin determines whether you have this feature and the ability to toggle it off.
What’s going to count as someone having read your message?
- Everyone must have read receipts turned on
If you are chatting with someone who has it disabled or someone who’s beyond your organisation, you will see no read receipts from that person.
- Clicking into the chat window is the action that marks a message as a read receipt
You won’t receive a read receipt if someone views your message in a notification or in the Activity feed. Or if they notice or reply from a banner notification, or the power bar. You’ll simply obtain a read receipt if someone has selected the chat and replied there.
What will not trigger a read receipt?
As stated above, a message will contain a read receipt merely if the recipient has selected the chat window. Read receipts won’t mark a message as seen if opened from a fast entry point like someone’s profile, a banner notification, or the power bar.
Turn on or turn off read receipts
To view or adjust this option, pick your profile pic at the top of Teams, and then choose Settings > Privacy. Within here, activate or deactivate Read receipts.
Important: Your admin decides whether you can turn this setting off.
See who’s read your message in a group chat
The Read by option presents who’s read your message in a group chat of 20 people or less. After everyone has seen your text, the Seen confirmation displays beside your message.
To view who’s read your message, find that message in a group chat, and press More options > Read by. Everyone with a read receipt confirmation are presented in the list.
